Christmastime is when we gather close to family and friends. Bundled safe inside our homes, surrounded by the cozy twinkling lights on the tree, we are safe from the snowy blistering cold outside. Home is our refuge. It's where we feel secure in the idea that whatever is out there, whatever is lurking in the dark winter night, is not here inside with us. Inside is safe.

It's Christmas break and a house full of sorority sisters gets ready to head back home for the holidays. The young women began receiving disgusting prank calls that become increasingly more upsetting. When one of the sorority sisters goes missing the police get involved to discover their prank caller is more deranged than they could have ever imagined.

“Black Christmas” is truly a holiday horror gem. The original slasher that set a standard for the genre few have been able to surpass. Often in horror there is a tendency that the older the film is the less scary modern audiences will find it. “Black Christmas” is an exception to this rule. Released in 1974, this film holds up. It is genuinely disturbing, and gets you on the very edge of your seat. The simple but effective setting, eerie phone calls, and excellent performances make “Black Christmas” an arguably perfect slasher flick.

From the sherry guzzling house mother, to the bourbon drinking sorority sisters, the characters in this movie appreciate that it's the booziest time of the year. Our cocktail the Filthy Billy combines the warm flavors of bourbon and the fruity nuttiness of sherry. In addition, we added creme de cassis for its rich flavor and black currant tartness, cran-blackberry juice for its sweetness, and 2 dashes of cranberry bitters for a bloody good holiday touch. We served ours in a chilled martini glass and garnished with blackberries and a sprig of rosemary.

  1. In a cocktail shaker add all ingredients with ice. Shake for 15 seconds until well chilled.

  2. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

  3. For the garnish: stab a sprig of rosemary through one or two blackberries and set in glass. Enjoy!
