Over 40 years ago John Landis released his horror comedy “An American Werewolf in London”. Famous for its incredible make-up and practical effects, the film has developed a cult following of horror fans. As the Autumn air creeps in and the leaves begin to change, a spooky werewolf movie is the perfect way to kick off your Fall season.

American college students David and Jack are backpacking through the English countryside when they are attacked by a large wolf. David is bitten but survives. His best friend Jack is unfortunately mauled to death. David awakes in a London hospital, where he begins to experience intense nightmares and strange hallucinations. He can no longer tell what is real, and a rotting, horribly decomposed Jack comes to warn him that he is now a werewolf. As the full moon approaches David must come to terms with his impending doom.

“I’m certain if there was a monster roaming around northern England, we’d have seen it on the telly.” -Dr. J. S. Hirsch

We named our cocktail the Slaughtered Lamb after the pub David and Jack come across at the beginning of the film. We used Wolf Moon Bourbon, as David is an American werewolf after all. The bourbon has notes of caramel, sweet corn, and honey. Later in the film David’s doctor visits the pub and orders a Campari soda; we incorporated Campari into our drink for a Bourbon variation of an Old Pal. We added Angostura bitters and garnish with a lemon peel.

The Slaughtered Lamb

Ingredients:

1 oz bourbon

1 oz Campari

1 oz dry vermouth

2 dashes Angostura bitters

Lemon peel (garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing glass add all ingredients and fill with ice. Stir for 30 seconds.

  2. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Twist lemon peel expressing the oils onto the drink.

  3. Rub the lemon peel across the rim of the glass and drop into the cocktail.
